Abigale Lee
Miller (born on September 21, 1965) is an American choreographer teacher, dance
instructor, and reality television personality. Abby Lee Dance Company is her
idea, and it was on for eight seasons of Dance Moms. Miller admitted guilt on
June 27, 2016 to the charge of felony bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced
for one and two-and-a-half years in federal prison. She was released on March
27, 2018. In April of 2018, she developed lymphoma, an aggressive form of
cancer that rendered her ineligible to walk. She is now using a wheelchair to
get around. Miller has been a dancer since childhood in Penn Hills,
Pennsylvania, located in a Pittsburgh suburb. She attended classes under her
mother's direction at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller at the age of 14
was given choreography and instruction of one of her mother’s dance competition
teams. Miller eventually took over the dance studio and renamed it Reign Dance
Productions. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America and was a member
of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter #10 in 1986 however, her membership
was ended in February 2012 in the wake of DMA saying that Miller's show on
reality TV Dance Moms was "a total misrepresentation of our dance teachers
as well as their students. It is harmful to the profession of dance."
